This blog is part of a series on the GAPS diet and No Plant GAPS. I had the pleasure of spending time with Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, learning directly from her expertise. The information shared in these blogs comes from our private conversations, public interviews, and exclusive content from a special interview included in the No Plant GAPS training session.
Monika Holland asked Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride: “Should I be worried about consuming too much protein on No Plant GAPS?”
if somebody is following a non-plant-based diet (GAPS), should they be worried about consuming too much protein? And that. If our liver will basically start producing too much glucose and we’ ll end up with high blood sugar, should we measure the amount of protein we consume? And should we maybe check our blood sugar on a regular basis? I have developed a term for my patients and for the GAPS community. Too scientific. If you want to lose your weight in this world, follow the science. The majority of scientific papers published on anything natural, whether it’ s medicine, whether it’ s health, zoology, biology, you know, anything like that, are not worth the paper they’ re written on.
But then there is a whole body of honest research telling us that Western population is not consuming enough protein. And that a whole caboodle of pretty much every chronic disease stems from the fact that we’ re not consuming enough protein. People in the West are not eating enough protein. There is a protein starvation in the Western world. And not because of lack of food, but because of propaganda. Because the propaganda that comes from the mainstream nutrition is that protein is bad, that meat is bad, that eggs are bad, fish is bad. Live on wheat and sugar. Kind of thing, you know, because these things are not mentioned. Right. Right. Right. When you remove everything, they’ re malign. All you’ re left with is bread and sugar. And cereals. Cereals for breakfast.
Cereals for breakfast, which are an absolute poison. Nobody should be eating those things. And, you know, so many helpings of fruit and vegetables, fruit and vegetables, fruit and vegetables. No, that’ s all. So it’ s propaganda. Do not worry about that. Too scientific. The more nature doesn’ t dissect anything. Mother Nature gave us meat. Meat is not protein. Meat is a complex, complete food, which contains everything in it, not just protein. Do not equate meat to protein. That’ s a lie. That is not true. Meat contains a form of animal starch in it called glycogen. It’ s more dense than the starch you’ ll get from potatoes and bread. So meat contains a lot of starch. Meat contains a carbohydrate in it, a complex carbohydrate called glycogen in it. Meat contains fats.
Meat contains phospholipids. It contains all vitamins necessary for the human body. Much richer, much higher amounts. All the B vitamins are in the animal foods. Plants cannot give you those vitamins. It’ s only animal foods and the meats that give it to you. And when I say the word meat, I’ m not talking about a lean piece of steak, a fillet steak. I’ m talking about a chunk of animal. Where everything is consumed. Nothing is dissected, removed, or thrown away. That is why I recommend to many of my clients, when you buy an animal, you have to speak to the butcher. And ask the butcher not to cut it according to the way he’ s been taught in the Western butchery schools.
Because in the Western butchery schools, they are taught to dissect the pure muscle out of that animal and everything else is removed. Right? And they’ re very skilled at it. To remove this bit and remove that bit. So much thrown away. Majority of the animal is thrown away. It’ s unbelievable what’ s going on in the Western world. No, you just want pure chunks of animal. Put into several bags and given to you. And then at home, you will sort it out yourself. You just put it in a pan, fill it up with water and boil it. And you will get all the nutrition from it. So meat is not protein. Meat is a complete piece of food that will give your body every nutrient that your body requires.
Everything in the right proportions. The fat will be there. The carbohydrates will be there. The proteins will be there. Amino acids will be there. All vitamins, all minerals, all phospholipids. Everything will be there. Everything that you need.
The protocol for the No Plant GAPS diet is outlined comprehensively in the book “Gut and Physiology Syndrome” by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, the creator of this approach. Further information on the protocol can also be found here.
