Hey there! So you might be experiencing some difficulties while transitioning to the GAPS diet. But, here’s the thing – most of the time, it’s due to Detox and Die Off. So, when harmful bacteria start dying as a result of GAPS, they release all of their toxins at once, which can make you feel worse. Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride explains that this is what causes the symptoms we struggle with in the first place. But, detox support is NOT an option. If you’re not supporting your body in shedding all the toxic waste that GAPS mobilizes, there’s no point in doing GAPS in the first place.
So, I suggest you start by picking one of these 3 detox methods to do every day:
Firstly, Enemas: These are the most effective detoxification method ever. Basically, if you’re not pooping, you’re not healing yourself. So, if your poo and toxins are not leaving your colon, the toxins get reabsorbed back into your body. Enemas are the only way to physically remove the dried poo that gets stuck to the walls of your colon, which creates the perfect environment for parasites and pathogenic bacteria. Learn more here.
Secondly, Detox Baths: These are a great way to release toxins through your skin, taking the burden off your liver and internal organs. Plus, it’s super relaxing and perfect for unwinding at the end of the day. You can use various things such as baking soda, seaweed, epsom salt, dead sea salt, raw apple cider vinegar, and bentonite clay. It’s best to rotate these substances to ensure all toxins are removed. If you’re new to this, start slowly and build up gradually.
Thirdly, Light exercise: exercise can also support detoxification. Exercise increases circulation, which can help to move toxins out of the body. It also stimulates the lymphatic system, which is responsible for removing waste and toxins from the body. Incorporating both cardiovascular exercise and strength training into your routine can be beneficial for detoxification.
There are also a number of supplements and herbs that are commonly used to support detoxification. Milk thistle, dandelion root, and turmeric are all herbs that are often used to support liver function, while N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and glutathione are antioxidants that can help to reduce oxidative stress and support detoxification. It’s important to note that while these supplements can be beneficial, they should always be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
Remember, all of these detox methods are part of a daily routine. And, yes, I have done enemas every day (after I poo naturally first). So, make sure to support your body and help it in the detox process, which is the key to feeling great on GAPS.
